Perceptions of Minority Ethnic Groups on Mental Health Electronic Health Records

I graduated with a BSc in Psychology from the University of Bradford, followed by an MSc in Cognitive Development and Disorders from the University of Leeds. Currently, I am a PhD researcher at the University of Bradford, where I aim to understand Minority Ethnic groups’ perspectives on mental health electronic health records (EHRs). Through my research, I intend to gain first-hand perspectives from Minority Ethnic service users accessing mental healthcare, as well as from mental health clinicians, stakeholders, and relevant bodies regarding EHR usability within an NHS mental health trust. Thus, the study will provide a rich source of data that could help policymakers better understand the needs of Minority Ethnic service users and improve their experiences in healthcare.

My PhD is motivated by a dedication to improving mental healthcare for Minority Ethnic groups, who are not only underrepresented within health and social research but also within primary care services; hence, these groups continue to experience inequality. I actively seek to understand how equity, diversity, and inclusion can be encouraged, and becoming a Scholars Board Member at the Yorkshire Consortium for Equity in Doctoral Education will allow me to be involved in enhancing the experiences of postgraduate researchers from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic backgrounds. Joining YCEDE enables me to support the experiences of PGRs of Colour, ensuring we feel like valued members of the wider scholarly community.
