The Yorkshire Consortium for Equity in Doctoral Education (YCEDE) are delighted to announce our programme of online events providing information, advice and guidance around PhD application and study for 2024/25.
These webinars are for designed for Black, Asian and minority ethnic graduates and undergraduates with UK fee status interested in studying a PhD.
Registration is open for all webinars, with the first event taking place on Wednesday 2 October titled What is a PhD really? where attendees can hear from current PhD students and supervisors and ask any questions they have.
Webinars are hosted on Microsoft Teams and Zoom and are accessible from any device. If you are unavailable at the times below, you will still be able to watch the sessions recordings provided you register for the session.

Inclusive Research Network Launch | Tuesday 22 October 1.30pm – 3.30pm | During the event we will hear from PhD students, research associates and pre-PhD candidates on the importance of networking and building networks throughout your academic journey. The second part will be an informative session on the use of the LinkedIn platform and how to best utilise it. Introduction to research methodologies | Monday 28 October 12pm – 1pm | This online session aims to provide prospective and current UK Black, Asian and ethnically minoritised PGR students with information, advice and guidance on the different research methodologies utilised in postgraduate research across different subject areas. | Register on Eventbrite |
YCEDE Advocacy Scheme | Thursday 7 November 12pm – 1pm | Learn how the Advocacy Scheme can increase your confidence in approaching supervisors and make a high quality application for a PhD through 1 to 1 academic guidance. Interviewing for your PhD: What to expect and How to prepare | Thursday 28 November 12pm – 1pm | If you would like to know what to expect or how to prepare, find out more about what happens at an interview and get some useful tips and advice. How a Research Internship can prepare you for a PhD | Wednesday 5 February 12pm – 1pm | Find out about YCEDE’s 32 annual research internships offering participants the opportunity to work as professional colleagues in partnership with academic staff, through carrying out independent research.
