to YCEDE, Lenka, Elizabeth, Tiffany, Adelaide, Jennifer, Nicola, S.B.Iqbal, Judith, Sarah, Asha, George, me
Hi all,

It's that time again when we kindly ask you to share comms pushing the induction dates for the one-to-one mentoring programme. This time we are advertising solely for mentees as we have quite a large pool of mentors now built up. It's our usual eligibility and open to PGRs from all year groups and faculties. Please let me and the team know if you need any support in this or different formats.

We will also share directly with the PGRs who have previously shown interest through our Google form. Hopefully we have a great fourth cohort and as always thank you for all your support here!

Best wishes,

Esther

---------------COMMS TO SHARE -----------------------

The Yorkshire Consortium for Equity in Doctoral Education (YCEDE) would like to invite you to our next cohort of the Postgraduate Researcher (PGR) Mentoring Programme

The YCEDE PGR Mentoring programme provides UK Black, Asian and ethnically marginalised*  PGRs with a trained mentor with whom they are able to have supportive, non-judgemental conversations about their experiences of postgraduate research and their professional and career development. The YCEDE PGR Mentoring programme is part of a wider programme of opportunities and support that students can access

What is the YCEDE PGR Mentoring programme?

The Yorkshire Consortium for Equity in Doctoral Education (YCEDE) is a collaboration among five Yorkshire universities—Sheffield, Leeds, York, Bradford, and Sheffield Hallam—alongside UKRI-funded Doctoral Training Partnerships and external partners, committed to fostering equity in doctoral education.

This is a six-month, one-to-one mentoring programme, which pairs a PGR with a member of staff, either at their own institution or from a partnered university. This mentoring programme is not for PGRs seeking research-specific guidance or support, as mentors will not be able to comment on your research. This programme is for those who wish to speak with a mentor about their experiences of postgraduate research and/or their professional and career development. Further details and programme specifics will be covered as part of the induction process.

Who is eligible to be a YCEDE mentee?

To join you must;

  • Identify as Black, Asian, or ethnically minoritised and be a UK-domiciled doctoral researcher at a YCEDE institution.
  • Be enrolled in any year of a doctoral research programme.
  • Be able to commit to six, approximately one-hour, mentoring meetings over 6-months (May–October 2025). Held online or in person.
  • Attend both an Induction Workshop and a YCEDE EDI Workshop.
  • Provide feedback on the programme.

All mentors will have undertaken training prior to becoming a YCEDE mentor. Both mentors and mentees are offered continued support throughout the programme.

*We use the term Black, Asian or ethnically minoritised student respectfully, although we know there are issues with this term. We recognise the importance of acknowledging and celebrating the cultural and ethnic identity of people within what is defined as Black, Asian and ethnically minoritised.
