On Thursday 25th April, YCEDE Scholarship Holders were invited to an exclusive networking and information event at The University of Sheffield, along with YCEDE staff.
As part of our Workstream Three objectives, the event aimed to improve the on-course experience of our PGRs by enabling our scholarship holders to feel better connected to each other across the consortium. All five of our partner institutions were represented in Sheffield, where attendees were also asked to contribute their ideas and suggestions for other support that YCEDE could offer in future.
As well as networking and community-building, Prof Paul Wakeling, WS2 co-lead, provided a summary of the rationale behind the YCEDE project which highlighted the stark drop-off in the representation of ethnically-minoritised communities as they progress from undergraduate to postgraduate level. WS3 co-lead, Dr Asha Akram, also provided our Scholarship Holders with a reminder of the support available to them from YCEDE and other networks at their institutions to assist them throughout their PhD journeys.
We would like to thank our scholarship holders for being as engaged and enthusiastic as they were to be active participants in the event, as well as our WS3 colleagues for organising.
